Our relationship with nature is inherently personal. For some, it’s a place of immersion and active participation, while for others, it’s a place to pass through at an arm’s length. However, despite these differences, both experiences are capable of cultivating a sincere appreciation for one’s surroundings. After all, nature shapes all our lives in one way or another - whether through its presence adjacent to buildings and infrastructure, or in places farther afield, such as a park, garden, beach, lookout etc.
Observing how people differentiate their attention and interest has been a central theme in this photographic series. Capturing strangers in the midst of their encounter with unfamiliar environments has, in turn, shaped my own experiences across Canada and Australia. The collection is divided into two sections: the first follows the sequential journey toward a destination and the second presents the images upon arrival.
